per capire la differenza basta ascoltare la versione di Placido Domingo (versione "Raaff") e confrontarla con quella di Rockwell Blake (Mozart intenzione originaria)!
I don't understand why people are criticising his coloratura? I think he is fantastic because the dramatic impetus informs the coloratura - something that most singers don't think about. I like this role a little bit more 'raw' and unpolished as it shows the dramatic development of Mozart's writing. Idomeneo in my eyes is a dramatic masterpiece and should be played as one - without restraint. We can hear beauty of sound elsewhere -give me emotion instead for this one!
Can't understand how anyone could fault Streit's reasonably accurate coloratura in this video of this difficult aria. Add to that his semi-heroic sound and his good acting, this video is downright thrilling. Thanks for posting it.
Such a difficult aria and lots of courage is needed to try the florid version....but it's difficult to even get close to H. Jadlowker...

dear friends the coloratura is the Mozartian original.
Raaff, the first singer for whom Mozart wrote this part, was just an
old man and not really able to handle the original coloratura,
Nikolaus Harnoncourt is supposed to be the first conductor who had the
courage to turn back to Mozarts original will.
So this is even closer musically to what Mozart wanted than the
version with the coloratura 'light' we normally are condemned to
listen to.
nice performance. at the end he weakens a little bit
