Imagination Stage, the regions leading theatre arts organization dedicated to children, is delighted to announce that Deborah S. Phelps, long-time Maryland educator and mother of 16-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps, attended its October 18 Annual Gala at Imagination Stage in Bethesda, Maryland. The Gala, Understanding Hearts: Celebrating Teachers and Other Heroes," was the ideal setting in which to honor Ms. Phelps and her work.
Throughout her nearly three decades in the field of education, Ms. Phelps top priority in the school house has always been teaching and learning -- the business of the school. Her role as the principal at Windsor Mill Middle School in Baltimore County is to serve as a strong, visible instructional leader, promoting student growth as well as teacher growth, with achievement being the top priority.
The Imagination Award honors someone who is well-known for their work in the arts or education, providing by example the inspiration for others to serve a similar mission. In presenting this award to Ms. Phelps, Imagination Stage applauds her 30-year commitment to teaching and reaching students.

The award was presented by Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown and The Honorable Chris Van Hollen, who was also the events Honorary Chair.
