The Kirkyard at Greyfriars in Edinburgh - one of the most amazing cemeteries I've ever visited! Home to the alleged MacKenzie Poltergeist and the Covenanters' Prison. A very haunted location with links to Harry Potter, Dracula, Frankenstein - truly an inspiring location.

  • this is good like i am wanting to go on a tour round covenanters prison but its closed off to public

  • @YWHT ah you need to go on the City of the Dead tour - l recommend it!

  • @ShropshireTraveller sorry to jump in like this but do you know where i can get additional info on that as i've heard its closed off due to safety reasons now.

  • @PwinceCharminAmin Best thing is to contact Black Hart Entertainment. Search 'Black Hart city of dead tour'

  • @ShropshireTraveller Did you ever go on it ? Is there anything to it in the way of real ghosts ?

  • @dannukesem Hi there - yes I did; as for real ghosts, I think that has to be determined by each person. It was certainly the scariest tour I've ever been on. Really!

  • Hehe, the homeless guy ran because he fell trough an old woodenhatch (old wood, broke) while he was trying to brake into the coffins to get any valiuables in there. He got freaked out, because down there, in the dirt where alot of skeletons, he could hear bones brake everytime he moved, and sculls all over. Probably some sorth of a massgrave, There is no way to calculate how many bodies actually lies there in unmarked graves. And he broke into Mackenzies tomb, not the prison ;)

  • is covenanters prison closed off to the public because if you didnt know this there was a homeless person who broke into the tomb saw a thing and ran out of the covenanters prison. but he should have shut the door of the tomb because now the Mackenzie poltergeist was let loose in the covenanters prison. George Mackenzie was the kings adequate for charles the second and is responsible for the deaths of approximately 18,000 covenanters. He would lie, cheat, anything to get them killed!

  • My husband and I walked around Greyfriars Kirkyard on a crisp Autumn morning in October and loved it. The history surrounding the place is amazing right from the heartwarming tale of Greyfriars' Bobby to it's dark connections to the persecution of the Covenanters and the legend of the Mackenzie poltergeist! Can't wait to go back. My even go on the City Of The Dead tour...if I'm brave enough!

  • been there. awesome place

  • I would have loved to have walked round a place like this when I was a teenager but now that I am older I would drop dead with fright if I so much as heard a bird tweet. Maybe I'll be brave enough to join the tour when I become a ghost myself.

  • I have photos of Mackenzie in The Black Mausoleum. He stalked and assaulted me for many months, after I was set up into going there on a tour. He is not a poltergiest or the ghost of a deceased lawyer. He is a demon. He refers to himself as Mackenzie Knight and presents as having a cat's head. You do not want to get mixed up with the demonic. Read The Invisible War by Rob Randall.
