@NeoHoshi i got a dreamcast and it does that expect my dreamcast is not modded i tried both cd's and games and it still does'nt work and it spins the disck so

Hmm, i initially thought you may have found yourself a japanese unit but it wuldnt explain the not reading the audio exactly... Have you tried a music cd in it?
Does the disc spin atall?
It is also possible that someone before you has attempted to mod it and damaged something.
failing all this it could be a faulty laser...

@NeoHoshi Yeah, there was a problem with the lid switch not recognizing that the lid was closed. I think I fixed it (it worked the last time I tried it), but it's just an extra console to have in case something goes wrong with my main one.
