Can a digital revolution solve our biggest health care problems?
That was the central question explored during the opening session of the Digital Health Summit at CES today, and it was also the key challenge issued to the CES community in attendance.
The panel, entitled "Visionaries Changing the Face of Health," featured Greg Lucier, Chairman and CEO of Life Technologies; Dr. Eric Topol, Chief Academic Officer of Scripps Translational Science Institute and Dr. Reed Tuckson Executive Vice President and Chief of Medical Affairs at UnitedHealth Group. The panelists were billed as visionary executives on the frontlines of addressing the challenges of personalized health care and the escalating cost of that care. During the wide-ranging 90-minute discussion, moderated by award-winning journalist Ira Flatow, they explored a myriad of related topics, including exciting new advances in gene-sequencing, the obesity epidemic and the problems and opportunities created by the explosion of health care-related data.
