This is as close as I could get to the original studio recording. I know it's not perfect but I'm interested in what people think of the tone. Using a 1964 Fender Vibroverb and 1966 Super Reverb.
The bright switch is on and the bass set to about 4.5 on each amp. Treble at 6. Reverb 4.5.
The microphone on my logitech camera seemed to hate the high frequencies so there are one or two hissing noises that are very annoying :( Anyway, whaddya think? My trial wmv to mpeg would only give me the 1st few seconds but you can get the idea of the tone from that anyway. Thanks for listening and I'd appreciate any feedback.
Cheers
Brian

  • That made me want to change my life

  • @SG19755 Hey thanks!

  • wow , what was the Guitar.2 classic big buck amps!! nice job on that tune, but I think it would take a small fortune to match the sound on all his songs.

  • @James91LP Yeah - I gave up and now have my own sound tailored around this. It certainly helped me discover what I was looking for though.

  • You nailed the tone of the early days of SRV..BUT Stevie switched to Marshall amps..he played 3 Marshall JCM 800's and a Dumble...the Dumble he used for a crystal clean sound but his great tone came from the Marshalls. SRV has a Gear Rundown on youtube were he talked about his change...check it out.

  • @humbucker101 Hey thanks for the comment and advice. I have moved on a lot from this video now but it was a great time back then when I could afford to buy that sort of gear.

  • Your tone is spectacular. Your playing on this song is also very good, by anyone's standard. My only complaint is that I didn't get to hear the rest of the song. Keep doing what you're doing because I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome job!!! You have a great tone and play very nicely. If you are trying to get SRV's exact tone, I really don't see the point. There was one SRV and will only be. Play who you are and with a tone you are happy with. Unless you are trying to get his exact sound for some reason, just enjoy playing great music and less time on listening to critics of your tone.

  • @1FenderGibson Thanks for the comments. This video was taken a while back and I have since moved on a lot in my playing. I even have a Gibson Les Paul!
