Bill gates might be the richest ever nominally but in real terms he isn't even close... John D. Rockefeller was worth 1.4 billion in 1937 but in todays money that would have been worth $600 billion!!! Sorry but bill gates is poor next to this guy...

@lamb1500 He was worth 112 billion actually. He was the richest man in the world for over ten years, and no one person in the world, has developed a fortune worth more than his. and in 2011 the richest person in the world had just under 54 billion.

@saroh25 bill gates has never been worth 120 billion.... he gave away a lot to charity but the most he was worth was about 70 billion... he is now worth about 50 billion...
