January 2010; the coldest sustained period in the UK in ages. The perfect time to try some ice diving. But where to go?

We considered the Lake District, but a lot of the roads up there were questionable, the bigger lakes weren't frozen enough and the tarns would take a lot of effort to get up to. But was there anywhere closer to Lancaster? And would it be frozen enough? Well the canal's over so presumably other places are as well. Wait a minute...the canal...that's close. Could we?

This video is pieced together from a few dives over a weekend through two different holes in the ice. So the continuity isn't bang on, but it gives an impression of what it was like (just imagine being very cold).
