Is There racism in the south?

Is there racism in the south. Many southerners claim it has become more progressive in it's thinking. Other's claim it's still that neo-conservative hotbed for extreme right idealism. Is the south racist anymore?

How is the way we talk or dress ignorant? I understand you may feel outside of the group when you are around them, but that seems to be only because we don't talk like you. So then, is the very definition of acting "intelligent" to "act white?" Why can't we be "black" and still be intelligent. That's just like when I am around whites, I feel the same way you do. I feel like they are afraid of me, and don't even know me (which makes me automatically not like them for not liking me).

And racism in the south has really seemed to show in a big way with Texans wanting to leave United States, and the rise in white house hate mail coming from red states. Why is racism so alive in the south?

And why is it the south has such a terrible atmosphere of intolerance? Is it the lack of education? The lack of social progress?

Non of you racist southerners are giving me a reason WHY you believe these things. Science doesn't back it up, morality argues against it. Don't you think your attitudes are a bit caveman?

Strange, because I have seen a LOT of racism in the south, especially around election year, and recently on pretty much every video search I do on youtube with the words "southern culture." This reputation comes from somewhere (history). My question is, is it as bad as it was, or has it become more progressive?

to me i think peole who on;y think that racisim is only exist in the south is pure ignorant because racisim is everywhere, and every race has a racist person in it. It doesn't matter if you are orange, pink, yellow, blue, brown, every race has a racist person in them . Racisim is everywhere and thats life. Get with it!

I live in the South and the racism goes both ways. Hopefully it can someday end.

I'm black/white and from The South. I've gone up North and some of the people I met were suprised that I enjoy living here. Some think its like it was back in the Old South days. ITS NOT! I have had 3 times where someone has been racist to me and I'm 26 yrs old. Heres' some racism for you, Why do universities (in U.S. & The South) allow for there to be black and latino student unions, but if a white group wanted their own it would be racist? Forget race, God made people we all bleed the same.

Racism is everywhere man. The trick is to ignore it. If someone comes up to me and calls me a Nigger or Cracker, I'm not going to get mad, because it's not true. So I disagree with the "knock em out" part, but I understand why you would. If you would like to talk in further detail on my reasoning, then please add me and I will explain everything on why I think this way. Love your video by the way man, good way to nail this topic.

I live in the deep country in Alabama and racism seems to be dying out..I have friends that are from East Africa,Indian,black,whatever and we can walk up the road,go to the store and everyone is as friendly as can be..Way more interracial couples now,waaaay more gay couples..The only racist people around here are old old timers (black and white)..No one really cares anymore..I have met more racist northerners than southerners..

You have to understand the South wouldn't be so racist if it hadn't for the darn civil war. Then Slavery would have died of natural causes like in latin america then we wouldn't have segregation or need the civil rights movement. Heck we wouldn't even need Martin Luther King. I am a Northerner and I don't hate the south I used to be scared of Southern Whites but not anymore. Hell I Iove Southern Belles and I plan to marry one. If you think the south is bad think again look at New York city.
