I'll be bonding MDF board to polystyrene foam very soon, so this is a test to see which will work better. I didn't have any mdf available here, but I feel the result would have been even more pronounced with MDF conpared to the wood i actually used here. Both seem to be adequate however.

  • Now, I'm looking to glue an 80mm cooling fan to a cutout hole in a piece of polystyrene. The piece in question is a standard sized cold shipping container, normally used to transport cold medical equipment (just so you have an idea of the type of material I'm working with). The fan case itself is plastic. My question, will the PVA work to bond it efficiently, or do I have to go the extra step and mix the epoxy resin?

  • @AndrewDeLong i think pva won't stick to plastic very well at all. but what i advise you to do is, prior to gluing them together, take a knife or scissors or something else with a sharp edge, and scratch the surface of the plastic that will have glueo n it - the sides that will be in direct contact with the styrofoam. This way the glue (whatever you choose to use) will have something to anchor itself onto - unless the surface already has a lot of sharp edges.

  • also it would be a good idea to sand the surface before scratching it too, and don't get rid of any bits that end up sticking up too high - let the resin or glue hold onto them.

Ah! Thank you kindly. I'll take all of this under advisement when I'm done my little project.

    Again, thanks!
