TV DRENTHE SPORT - Kent u ze nog? Piet Kleine, Hilbert van der Duim en Jan Bols.... Deze schaatshelden van weleer schaatsen altijd nog één keer per week samen op de ijsbaan van Assen.
@HattieLovesCattie he wasn't booed, but i cannot help it if there have been some fools that did so. he was and still is popular in holland and he is considered one of the best-i say the best- skater ever. i've had the opportunity to see him in Alkmaar in 1977 where he won the worldchampionship sprint, only 18 years old. I know indeed that in heerenveen in 1980 he was tired after his goldrush
@oronopolo I've been to Holland twice but I know I read in the papers and mags on how he got booed when he didn't win a race or the World Championship a month after his 5 golds in Lake Placid.Eric and everyone else was tired.I got to meet Eric at a bike race in Calif.six months later. He was so sweet.Eric is really showing his age now.Read that he has pain in his back and knees all the time now. What he did will not be repeated.
@edsk8fast Didn't he beat Eric Heiden in a race after the Lake Placid games?Eric got booed I think but heck,he was tired from winning his five gold medals. No one will ever beat that!!!
Hilbert van der Duim a technically beautifull skater with a brilliant career. What is the problem with the Dutch always having to highlight sportspersons blunders? Is that entertainment? This guy was the best in holland for 7 years !! There is no proffessional sports person who does not make a few blunders over that long a period!! Dont you make the occassional one at work!! Even though he did not win a olympic medal i still rate him in the top twenty best speedkaters of all time!
I also got to meet Dan Jansen as we both live the same state now.He was at a hopsital fund raiser at a golf tourney.
