I think he was thanking Paul for covering the song and making it a hit. The song was on Hall & Oates 1980 Voices album but wasn't released as a single at that time. I was a big H&O fan at the time and although I LOVED the song, it wasn't the kind of music that was popular on the radio in '80. Paul Young released his version in 1985.
