655,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the 2003 US invasion according to a study published in the October 2006 issue of Lancet available at: http://www.thelancet.com/webfiles/images/journals/lancet/s0140673606694919.pdf

Eleanor Clift, contributing editor at Newsweek, nominated this study of the number of Iraqi deaths as the most underreported story of the year for the 2006 end of year awards on PBS's McLaughlin Group, a short clip of which I took from the full episode available at: http://www.fednet.net/mg/MG122906.mp4

I contrasted the underreporting of Iraqi deaths with the meticulous reporting of the deaths of US soldiers exemplified by the short ABC local news channel 49 KTKA in Topeka, KS clip at: http://media.49abcnews.com/video/2007/01/01/3000.mov

I also used a quote from epidemiologist Les Roberts, a co-author of the Lancet article, talking about the methodology of the study available at: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/10/12/145222

And, finally, the October 11, 2006 Bush press conference is available in full at: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/10/20061011-5.html

I notice Bush's quote "I stand by the figure" sounds a little different than it's quoted on the White House website when you watch the video

  • Don't play the old "Blame it all on the government" game, and try to tell us that all soldiers are moral, honorable people. The truth is that a very large portion, may in fact be the majority, of US troops are themselves criminals who intentionally break the laws of war to harm civilians. Those criminal soldiers are just as guilty or even more so than their government.

  • God told him it was only 30k deaths. Why would he listen to some stupid scientists?

  • @rorycalhoun27 Are you crazy?

  • ok, so if it was 30,000? it is still 10 TIMES the amount of soldiers.

  • Please, the Lancet Report has been thoroughly discredited.

Message me and I will refer you to the studies that show this unequivocally.

  • "The real number stands at around 60,000 to 100,000; mostly do to Iraqi-on-Iraqi Violence."

Nope, not credible. A million times less credible than the Lancet claim. For your claim to be true, that means that, since the Pentagon has cited over 20,000 insurgents killed, some 40,000-80,000 others have been killed since 2003. So that must include all the people who have died from suicide car bombings, death squads, and as collateral damage from coalition operations?

  • I do not understand how u (209 thumbs down) can say negative about this video, when LiberalViewer simply wants to show the truth. Thank you LiberalViewer.

  • @davisfleetwood Not yet, maybe in 50 years. maybe

  • God is an unforgiving son of a bitch if he exists. I feel bad for anyone who has lost a loved one in this abomination of a war I voted for gore and so did 51% of other Americans but I do not know honestly if we still wouldn't be at war. Americans are good people but the greed and corruption of a few makes us all look bad.

  • China has taken over as the #1 economic superpower and the US will never be the same
