  • Having own boas/pythons for all my life, I hadn't ever had a GTP figuring the amount of work and care for them. I went to the Northeast Reptile show here in NY, and several were selling baby GTP's. I was able to speak to one breeder/seller and relayed my concerns about humidity, enclosures, etc... This guy insist that it's overated, and that if you mist them once or twice a day, that is all the GTP's need. I found this to be a cheap selling ploy but could be wrong. Any thoughts on it Jason?

  • OMG! Humidity is VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT! Misting them just wets the snake which is good to do because they drink from their body a lot, but it doesnt keep moisture in the air which is your humidity! Maybe in a very tight enclosed tub you could get away with misting it heavily with the lid barely cracked open but that will lead to stale air and promote bacteria! Thats one thing I love about the bubble stones, it gives them fresh oxygen, and keeps humidity high.

  • (Continued) When they are big enough for a larger cage you will need a rain system, misting system or fog machine and good air flow. Humidity needs to be at least 80 and better if its 90 during the day and about 60 at night. Spraying may give 80% humidity all of 15 minutes if you use a fine mist and spray for 2 or 3 minutes but it wont last. I have my fog machines (humidifiers) set on a timer to come on 2 hrs and then off 2 hrs and it keeps humidity between 80-98% during the day!

  • Whats the best temp for the heat tape?

  • you have to adjust it depending on your tub size.....you definitely need a thermostat hooked up to any heat tape.
