Etta James died today. How do we measure the passing of a national treasure like Etta? I don't think we can. The way she could take a song entitled "Sweet Memories" and dip it in her own pain and give us something this beautiful is just something we don't see or hear anymore. I never got to see her live, but her body of work was impressive. The power of her voice able to transcend even the poor quality of her early recordings. RIP Etta, thank you for the "Sweet Memories"...
