I had one of these, I added a tach and discovered it pumped up the lifters at only 4400 RPMs/98 MPH. It was fairly strong for a little 215 cube V8 engine, 215 gross HP. Got about 25 MPG. Wish I had it now, cute little red car, and with what I know about turbo engines now. It could make some serious power with a few mods. The auto trans puked at 40,000 miles and I converted to stick shift, then ran out of turbo fluid and engine melted down the pistons, and I swapped in 2bbl engine...
YAY!!! My parents had one of these -- I LOVED that car!! I was a kid at the time, and I remember my dad had to put a bottle of something like looked like milk into the engine periodically. Then my baby brother was born, and we had to trade it in for a VISTA CRUISER STATION WAGON (talk about a different kind of ride!). I did like looking out of the windows in the roof, though! :)
that has got to be a typo. 1 gal of gas tacking you 750miles is crazy enough but 8000? i would like to reed this article
"Drive across America on ONE gallon of gas"
maybe its talking about the "Turbo Rocket Fluid" a mix of water and alcohol that is injected after the carb to cool the intake charge and prevent pre-ignition
The corvairs is cooler, came out like a month later
