Selena's Point Of View

I ended up leaving the banquet early. Taylor and his friend began harassing me and Miley, Emily and the other girls were gossiping about me. I had never been so stressed out at a party before, things weren't always like this. Everyone has been on edge lately not only because of the attacks but because this is the year me and many of my supposed friends turn eighteen. A couple have already had their birthdays, like Taylor and Emily. Both of them have already been initiated into the secret society that my parents helped start.

The difference between Emily and Taylor before and after their birthdays wasn't subtle. They were so excited about the initiation; we had all been waiting years to find out exactly what our parents did every Friday night when they met up. I had asked Taylor what happened in the initiation but he didn't say a word, he just spent the night at my house sitting in the corner of my room muttering to himself. I had never seen him so spooked. Emily was the same way at first, now they both act like everything is fine, but it's clear that they are acting.

My birthday wasn't for a few months and now I wasn't sure if I was excited or nervous about it. After seeing my friend's reactions I didn't know what to expect. I continued down the street away from the banquet hall. I had been walking for a couple minutes now, I didn't know where I was going, only that I had to get away. I passed a small coffee shop and decided to buy a snack since I barely ate today. I bought a small muffin and an iced coffee. I took a seat at one of the tables and ate my food.

"You're Selena Gomez right?" A voice said. I looked up to see a boy around my age maybe a little younger. He had been behind the counter earlier so I guess he worked here.

"Um yeah, who are you?" I asked.

"My name's Jonathan. Mind if I sit?"

"Not at all." The boy took a seat across from me. "So how did you know my name?" I asked him.

"Well your family has a pretty good influence on this town's police and mayor. Most people have heard of you." He said. "I was just wondering if you knew what would be happening with the local community center."

"What do you mean?" I had never been to the community center but Demi had and she told me it's where a lot of the lower class teens spent their time.

"It's just they want to tear it down and build some sort of business building. A lot of us need that community center, if there's anything you can do---" I interrupted him before he could finish.

"I'll talk to my parents, and see what I can do." I told him.

"Thanks, it's one of the only safe places in the neighbourhood where people can hide at night. None of our houses have the security that those mansions do." He sighed then got up from the table. "I know a lot of people will be grateful if you can save that community center." He gave me a small smile and then went back to work. I finished off my food and drink and then left the small cafe.

I began walking down the street again with a different thought in my head. How could my parents be trying to get rid of a community center? If they wanted a new business building then take out something else like a McDonalds, we have a dozen of them. I now knew where I was going; I was going to take a look at the community center. It took me nearly twenty minutes to walk there; the building was old with broken windows, and I couldn't see how this kept the vampires out, but if this is where it was safe I wasn't going to let my parents close it.

I stared at the building for a few minutes, wondering if I should go inside. In the end I decided against it and turned to start walking home. I walked down one of the streets, shocked by how run down it was. A couple guys made rude comments as I walked past but I ignored them, or at least tried to. They began following me from a distance and I felt my heart racing. Maybe walking alone wasn't such a good idea. I picked up the pace, running down the street; but they just ran after me.

When I looked behind me I saw them laughing. I ran as fast as I could and turned the corner. I kept running but when I looked behind me they were gone. I stopped and looked around. The streets were deserted. It was then that I realized that the sun had gone down.
