  • Weapons of Men. Days when Honor meant everything. Great video however, I didn't see the most efficient killing blade of all times, that being the Roman short sword.

  • @Punxsyjumper we reenact 1550-1600 the Gladius was not used at this time. it does not fair well against pikes and firearms

  • @Punxsyjumper the katzblager was alot like the gladius in terms of function

and to the contrary, the renaissance was an era of mass machinelike pikeblocks full of capricious mercenaries squeezing together in a slow, grim phenomena known as the push of pikes, in those clashes you would see massive casiualties of men scrabbling together in a dirty brawl of the sort one would expect in a drunken back alley brawl.

this era was quite the opposite of what you think in terms of honour and glory

  • @elgostine no joke... i do living history and know how to use many wepons from the peroid. Also historcly a Katz is longer then a Gladius and in the officers vershion it has a rounded tip as seen in this example an example from the Museo Civico Archeologico

i cannot post the link here but surch it out on the web

i figured you would likely know how to use it. the reason i said 'as im sure your aware' which ill admit is tantamount to stating the obvious is because i figured youd know at least something about the warfare of the era.

as for rounded tips.. that stums me, maybe its a status symbol of sorts?

since we have proof of katzbalgers with more pointed tips, it makes sense, like romans, you would want to be able stab in that close environment. where hacking isnt as useful.

  • @hickamfield2009 an odd comment, since the katzbalger was in essence the new gladius for the new legions 'since the development of the pike warfare as im sure your likely aware, partially stemmed from a renewed interest into the campaignss of the greeks and romans, these pikemen were seen as the new legionaires.

and the battle pydna showed how devestating, in the circumstances, the gladius could be against a pike block.

add in 3/4 plate, zweihanders and halberds we have carnage all round.

  • So cool... Are any of those cannons one of yours?

  • That'z mah Boyz... und Girlz!!!!!

  • awesome !! congratulation of french flandern ! landsknecht voran !
