This is a foster horse I am working with. Last week, I rode, as did the foster owner, This mare did not want to stand to be mounted, halt on the lunge and if asked to go the opposite way of the track, she would get upset, this is common with OTTB"s I removed the bit and she was much better, but we have alot of work to do. I was told she felt like she was going to go up. So we ground drove her to see what we had, she had a major melt down when asked to wait so I sent my niece for the camera. This was much less than the first, and more importantly she was able to come back to reality and get back to work.
She is a wonderful horse on the ground and will just get better under saddle.
Note to self - (do NOT wear brown shirt in public :)

  • Update- Horse was muc better the next week, we used Dr. Cooks bitless bridle for driving then riding, working at the trot now, horse's head has come way down, much more confident, relaxed.

Horse is learning to be patient, and to turn to the right and give her face softly to get a release, and she will not get put away for having a melt down. This is a nice nice mare. Remember this is the first time she had been driven.
