A picture of life in the Tasmanian town of Launceston in the mid 1960s. Another instalment of the popular Life in Australia series. Made by the Commonwealth Film Unit 1966. Directed by Peter Young and John Edwards.
The NFSA's Cooee Cabaret will perform in Launceston on 3/2/2012.
Cooee Cabaret is an original family cabaret show that weaves together iconic Australian songs and sound recordings, drawn from the NFSA's Sounds of Australia registry.

Great material. The fact that the Launceston Show is featured suggests a filming date in late October 1966?
The footage is not restricted to Launceston but appears to incorporate the old colonial settlements of Evandale (the airport) and Longford (the car races) and Hadspen (Entally House) as well.

I quite liked this :) As a 20 y.o. launceston born a bred male, i found it quite interesting how some things are the same and some are quite different :) I must acquire a trench coat, hat and briefcase :p

A wonderful place to live out one's life in peace and tranquility(even now).In comparison, the scenery/quality-of-life, makes Sydney, where I live, look like a toilet, and oh so 3rd world!
