An extension of the 710 freeway might lessen traffic. However, some people say that this proposal will have more consequences, than benefits. Residents of South Pasadena went on a local tour to some of these historic homes in an effort to preserve the look of their community.

  • @mikereevy thats not the issue. The issue is taht it would turn south pas into a ghost town. The freeway would cut the city in half

  • Or just make a turn from South Pasadena, but make sure to avoid the Arroyo Seco Pkwy 110, because that's history.

  • Just forget the homes, build the extension already, or just make a tunnel to I-210 and CA-134.

  • Why not a compromise? why not make the proposed tunnel a "Truck Traffic Only" route, and make passenger cars exit where it terminates now on Valley Blvd?

It keeps the big trucks off the streets, and keeps the citizens of Alhambra and S. Pasadena satisfied.

I don't think the tunnel idea would work, I cite the I-5 tunnels in Downtown Seattle. Those things are murder in traffic and have sub-standard ventilation.

Screenshot123, I agree adding freeways have only historically show to worsen traffic

  • It's called "eminent domain."

  • Have more freeways ever solved traffic issues? The 105 freeway was touted as the solution to relieve traffic congestion going east-west. It didn't. All it did was attract more cars. That's what freeways do - create temporary parking lots.

The solution isn't providing more space for cars, but to provide efficient transportation throughout the region. I don't see this as a "preserve beautiful homes issue" as much as a transportation philosophy.

  • Why don't you blow me MIKE REEVY? The government intrusion into private property rights is despicable. It has been previously shown that the western corredor withh get all you commuting idiot from work to home, but CalTrans as usual is being a giant stupid buracracy (what a surprise!). Go South Pasedena. Screw CalTrans. CC Meyers of Sacramento has proven several times how disorganized and inept they are.

  • yeah I-105 did displace a lot of disadvantage folks, who were mostly black. and even though two wrongs don't make a right, the people they interviewed in this segment seem like they can get by if the I-710 extension is built. and besides these "historic" homes can be moved instead of torn down, but to move them to where, we don't know, but i'm sure they will find a spot for them. it seems the whites up in sopa (sopa, short for south pasadena) are once again afraid of change. so just build it!

  • I hope that the a-holes who are against this much needed freeway do not use ANY of the freeways in LA. What a bunch of hypocrites! I'm sure those jerks drive on the 105 every day. The 105 displaced more people than we can count. These people didn't have the financial means to move easily. Who cares about a couple of pretty houses? WE ALL have to pay the price of progress. Your home's value $ doesn't entitle you to MORE than everyone else. You are not exempt.

  • just build the fucking freeway you rich fucks
