This is a video that I created to show a bit of the combat system, as well as a few of the classes, available in EverQuest 2. Don't expect to see l33t str4ts in this video -- this is from the game's 14-day trial. :P

This video's pretty self-explanatory to anybody who's played before: a level 9 Paladin, a level 9 Inquisitor, a level 10 Ranger, and a level 10 Shadowknight. Why these classes? Well, the hybrids were my main classes back in my EQ1 days; as for the Inquisitor, I decided to create her on a whim a few days ago. ;)

As for the video itself, I was originally going to upload each part separately, but after some thought I decided to combine them. This is my very first edited video. Enjoy!

Computer specs at the time of this video:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 (2.6GHz dual-core)
RAM: Corsair XMS1024-3200 x2 (2 gigs)
Video: Leadtek nVidia GeForce 6600GT
OS: Windows 2000 SP-4

In July 2010, Sony released a feature-limited free-to-play version of this game, calling it "EverQuest II Extended." As of December 2011, EverQuest 2 is now entirely free to play, with optional subscription levels to remove account restrictions and add content. For more detailed information, check out the available subscription levels at:

If you're having a hard time choosing a videocard for this game, here are two links that can help you decide. From these lists, you'll want to choose a card with at least 16 GB/s in the "Memory Transfer Rate" column -- a 16 GB/s card will put out decent framerates (about 15-25 FPS) at "Balanced" graphic settings, assuming your screen resolution isn't too high. (A 16 GB/s card will probably laugh at you if you try to run anything at 1920x1080.) Keep in mind: other specs contribute to your overall performance too.

  • hey I play wow but im sick of the pay to play shit its to expensive for a game. What would be the best alternative for wow?? this game? or would you recommend something else?

  • @Travide

Sadly, I haven't played a lot of free-to-play games myself. It looks like EQ2 has a lot of restrictions on free players (in-game pop-up ads? ouch!), so I dunno if I'd play it much outside of the occasional quest.

Otherwise, EQ2 is probably the most WoW-like F2P game I can think of atm. I know Lineage 2 recently went F2P also, was interested in trying it but never got around to it - no idea how it plays. Guild Wars is somewhat WoW-like and F2P, good game but somewhat stale.

  • @Hellfire99X *cough* cough Guild Wars 2? :D :D :D

  • @FaIIax GW2 is definitely on my radar! Dunno if I'll be a day-one player, but at some point I will most definitely play it.

  • @Travide

age of conan became free to play i think

it's like a normal copy of wow :D

  • @Travide i recomend perfect world and forsaken world

  • @Travide play guildwars it rules

  • @Travide GW2 looks great and you will only have to buy the game, which means no monthly subscription. Although it's not released yet, for now i would suggest you to take a look at DC universe online, Runes of magic and Vindictus, all of them are F2P.

  • it is completely free to play now and I would recommend I also just got sick of paying for WoW and this is the best for a casual player

  • @Travide try playing runes of magic its pretty good

  • @Travide Runes of Magic.
