Sigh. I agree that the film feels incomplete, which nags at me a lot. Please quit using the same argument against people who do not share your view about this film's "greatness". No more about "thinking", just tell me why it is great. I know we don't get a lot of space, but please try. There are plenty of thought-provoking movies that are sensical; I don't believe this film is either. Perfect example, No Country For Old Men. I guess that is my real beef, that I was forced to watch this over that
There is nothing to "think" about in this film. All of the characters act like clockwork in their interactions, all of their intentions are rather clear from the beginning. You cannot relate to any of the characters, as they all represent the worst of humanity. They are all greedy, just for different things. This literally boils down to a glorification of the worst traits in humanity. Not beautiful in my opinion, except the cinematography. And the ending didn't feel as such, it just... stopped.
At least you try to explain it. But I would like to argue that he doesn't become any more evil in the end then he was in the beginning, I believe that you just REALIZE it more at the end, then you do at the beginning. Go ahead and watch it again, I don't think that he becomes more evil as he just is frustrated trying to act like a decent human being, and exposes his true self more and more over time. Again, this underlying story still doesn't seem to be the focus of the movie, only a plot point.
(this is a reply to sscitan) This film tells an excellent story! It's the story of a man who gets more and more rich and evil every step of the way becoming more demonic and engulfed by himself. The movie has a lot of elements to it which I cannot really talk about with the character limit of youtube comments so sorry... but you do have to "think" to understand the beauty of this movie and milkado0987 apologies if I am wrong but I believe the plural of manga is manga and you read them not watch
(in case this doesn't show up as a reply this is a reply to "b3forelife") No offense, but the ending was a masterpiece. The final scene, line, the music that plays even the font of the title at the end.
I believe that since the cinematography and the acting (though there are times where performances felt very forced by the main actors) were superb, it is still missing the key elements of story and message/theme. It feels like viewers couldn't wrap their heads around it, and automatically decided that it was due to the fact of how profound the film was.
Everyone seems on board that this movie is the greatest film of the year/decade/all time. And if you do not agree, you get admonished for being short-sighted and unable to "think". My question is simple for the fans of this film: Why is it so great? This film does not actually tell a story nor does it convey any sort of message or theme. To me, these elments are the minimum requisites for a film to be "great".

(even though the end sucks)
