  • Say what you want about the man -- he speaks the truth. Some dismiss him as a bitter ex-champion, jealous of Armstrong's success and adoration. But to those of us who really love cycling, and who have taken the time to do the homework on Armstrong, Greg doesn't seem bitter at all. As time has passed since voicing his first audacious suspicions about Armstrong, I'm not aware of a single question or accusation he's raised that's been proven false. Greg remains the US's greatest true champion.

  • Greg Lemond raced everything, not ONE race, he is a real racer. A champion!

  • @jesuswouldkilhimself What race did Lemond ever race besides the Tour??

  • @athlete117 VO2 Max is measured as ml02/kg/min... i.e. it factors in the weight of the athlete. Nice try though.

  • he was America's best....then, and now. Deserves a bigger role on the inside of US cycling, if he would consent to it. He's remarkably with it for being so pushed to the side by everyone as though he's from a different planet....and they try so hard to make him seem like he has some jealous grudge against Armstrong....noooo, he wants a level playing field, and cheaters caught and removed....sounds good to me.

  • The truth hurts -- that's what truth is. Man up, Lemond's correct.

  • i was named after this guy! long live a true modest champion of cycling

  • @jesuswouldkilhimself Your mistaken. LeMond focused on the Tour exclusively after his first win in 86. He road some races just for preparation the same as Armstrong did. Sean Kelly was the last of a great generation, in his case he crossed multiple generations, to race all the classics and the great tours. In his book he states the LeMond is totally justified focusing only on the Tour.

The only other race he targeted was the World Championship, which he won twice, of course.

  • Allez Greg!

  • vo2 max is not the only factor. Isn't Phinney labout 6.4 and 80 plus kgs? I'd say that's a pretty big reason why he won't won't win the Tour. There are guys around the 60kg mark who fly up the mountains. I don't care what his vo2 is, he's losing big time to the natural climbers. The time trial might split the first two or three some years, but the best climbers are the guys who fill the top spots on GC. Not the best pursuit specialists. Look at the physique of Contador and Schleck.

  • LeMond sounds like he took too much Vicodin and too many vodka tonics before this interview.

  • @drewp66 youre obviously a great judge of character.
