A large auto assembly plant, a joint venture in California between Japanese Toyota and American General Motors, is set to close. Last year, General Motors went into bankruptcy and decided to pull out of the deal. Then Toyota announced it would halt production on March 31st, a date Toyota says remains unaltered by the problems some of its cars are having. Rachel Silverman reports from Fremont, California on the fall-out from the decision to end the joint venture, called New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated or NUMMI.

  • I'm sorry, isn't it GM that decided to shut down NUMMI, when they decided to abandon one of the few Pontiac models that was a top seller. They Could have rebadged the Vibe and sold it as a Chevy, but they "Chose" to abbandon all the wokers at NUMMI in part to give Toyota a black eye.
