This piece was composed in February/March 2010, commissioned by a dear colleague of mine, Akos Banlaky, for a concert cycle he organises each year at the Natural Historical Museum Vienna, Austria.
Its premiere performance - played by Gerhard Waiz & Johannes Kaar - occurred on March 29th, 2010 at that exact location. Both wonderful musicians have it in their regular concert repertoire since then and perform it in their concerts regularily, of course very much to my delight. :-)

I tried out several newer & progressive playing techniques and combined them in certain liberal, but still demanding forms (motives, scales, patterns etc.), mixing up aleatoric & strict parts.
The unusual combination of 2 instruments which are very close to each others sound register was a very big challenge to me, so I tried to work around this "problem" by combining sounds that are not so common, especially on the doublebass.
Both instruments are equally treated, once contemplating/supplementing each other, then again being in a solo/accompaniment relation, and then again in a certain kind of total unity. Nevertheless these treatments change often rapidly throughout the entire piece.

With "Episoden" it was my intention to try out a more experimental & sometimes rather harsh approach to certain musical ideas.
