I KNOW, I KNOW, It's taken forever, kill me later though okay?
The next week was a stressful one, at best, for Hazel. She had to explain to Xanthe why she was moving in with someone three years her senior who had a history of being a compulsive flirt, and a sometime tool. She had to beg and plead with Kevin not to tell mr. And mrs. Jonas about it all, and she had to figure out a way to tell Nick, that she feared, would be the hardest part of it all.
If that wasn't bad enough already, one of Hazels exams had been pushed forward a month, so in another week, Hazel would have to sit a one hundred minute exam on history in the middle ages. Not exactly a party.
"Hello?" Nick answered his phone carefully, the number on his screen flashed "Private" which usually meant a reporter of some description.
"Nick, it's me- I'm using Taniias phone."
"Oh hey Haze. What's up?"
"Nothing. No, really everything's fine."
"Hazel Fletcher..." Nick urged, not missing the obvious lie.
"Okay, we need to talk. Can you meet me in the fort at about three thirty this afternoon?"
"Sure, but I haven't seen you in so long, how ever will I recognise you?" Nick joked, honestly though, since the day Hazel agreed to move into Joes place, Nick and Hazel had almost no contact.
"Well, I'll be the one with the bright pink troll doll hair." Hazel laughed.
"Okay then. See you in a few hours."
"Ti amo hon. Ti amo." Hazel hung up the phone and shrugged with a smile. "Nothing to it." She lied. "Nothing to it."
"Who was that babe?" Joe asked appearing from the bedroom now cluttered with boxes full of Hazels things.
"Huh, oh- Nick. I think I'm telling him today."
"That's fantastic baby. Listen, I've got to run out and get a couple of things, I should be back at about seven, then you and I can have a nice, romantic dinner."
"Aww baby, you sure know how to treat a woman." Hazel kissed Joe quickly and shut the door behind him.
"Now, to find the words." She sighed. Slumping on the couch and looking at a photo of Joe, Kevin, Nick, Frankie, Xanthe and herself when she was only fifteen.
In the picture Hazel was looking up at Nick with a gaze full of so much love, it radiated through the frame, and Nick was looking down at her, identically. Xanthe and Joe had their arms around eachother and were smiling the same cheeky grin, and Kevin? Well, Kevin sat looking proudly at the camera as if to say "This is my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way, my brothers, my friends, my career, my future. My life." Frankie was sitting on Kevins lap, looking at the camera smiling innocently.
Unless you had been there when that photo was taken, you wouldn't guess that straight after the shutter closed, mr. Jonas snuck up behind the group and soaked them in ice cold water, you wouldn't know, that Nick and Hazel were caught up so much in eachothers gaze, that they didn't even notice.
Those were the days Hazel found herself looking back on so often, those were the days that, if Hazel wasn't so afraid to look deep into Nicks eyes, she would know, he was looking back too.
omg. I love the last half of the story. :)
