Well, it would work I guess, but boy would that be a long train...
The cars would have to be light, and probably self-powered to a degree because if you tried pulling a long string of light-weight cars, the first few might string-line around a curve because the total weight of all those cars (and the necessary train tension to pull them) might overcome the ability of the light-weight cars near the front to stay on the track.
How about... An electric catenary with panels all along, feeding it?

I like this idea, I'm not an engineer either - but I think that it would be better to put a large solar farm at the side of the railway somewhere, and set them apart for railway use. There will be less shade, more space for goods, less risk of them breaking, and the electricity can be transported through the rails (something already used on the London Underground) or through wires above.
Hmm, if the train is efficient enough, or there is no space, your idea is better

I have a much better idea. The solar panels be laid on the side of the track continuously through the length of the track in a fenced in area. Instead of using solar voltaic UV panels. We can utilized infrared solar panels. While running the panels on the side of the track, we can simply charge the track magnetically with a current amp that will move the train in a certain direction. Reducing the amperage or converting the power to a negative charge, it would reverse. Problem is, speed.

Ciao, the theoretical idea is good, but the main problem are the shadows that the wagons will find on their ways. Also just power line shadows will be a problem. Another critical point is the matching with oversize inverters for electrical motors and the relative cables that will be very long.
Last but not least:
What about the train in cloudy or rainy days? Or at night?
This suggestions are positve critics as I would be the first passenger of such a train.

There will be no unused energy. trains will probably consume it all. Nevertheless It is damn good Idea. I will vote for it if it makes to the finals.
I am an software engineer, and I can tell you your Idea is great, combined with regenerative brakes it may turn out that it is very economic. The main problem is that modern locomotives use 2000-3000 kW electric motors, and some even 7000kW.
In my calculations 2000 kW is needed for 1 min acceleration on flat terrain. and then the train will need electricity after 30 min. This means - We need 1/30 ot the total power this is 66kW with a output of 100 w per square meter this means 666 square meters of panels.With 3 m width of the train this is 222 meter long train. with wagons ranging from 12 to 25m this is about 11 wagons. I have seen 3 times longer trains. I will assume that losses in battery is compensated with regenerative brakes.
