Our trips to Barcelona Spain, this country is beautiful the food is fabulous and enertainment is everywhere from tango to Gypsy Flamenco dancers, I loved the castle in Carcassonne France, a place that reminds me of the show Tudors, so old and historic.
Please leave comments, God bless.

Barcelona is a dynamo where people work hard and play hard. A magnet for architecture buffs, foodies and night owls, it is a pleasure for all the senses.
Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia, is a cosmopolitan Mediterranean city that incorporates in its urban street pattern Roman remains, medieval districts and the most beautiful examples of Modernism and 20th century avant-garde art.

The expiatory church of La Sagrada Família is a work on a grand scale which was begun on 19 March 1882 from a project by the diocesan architect Francisco de Paula del Villar (1828-1901).
At the end of 1883 Gaudí was commissioned to carry on the works, a task which he did not abandon until his death in 1926. Since then different architects have continued the work after his original idea.

The building is in the centre of Barcelona, and over the years it has become one of the most universal signs of identity of the city and the country. It is visited by millions of people every year and many more study its architectural and religious content.

Antoni Gaudí's Parque Güell (pronounced par kay gwel) was originally intended as part of a residential garden community. This never came to pass, and Parque Güell was eventually sold to the city of Barcelona. Today Parque Güell, or Guell Park, remains a public park and World Heritage monument.
At Guell Park, an upper staircase leads to the entrance of the "Doric Temple" or "Hypostyle Hall." The columns are hollow and serve as storm drain pipes. To maintain a feeling of space, Gaudí left out some of the columns.

The huge public square in the center of the Parque Güell is surrounded by a continuous, undulating wall and bench cove studded with mosaics. This structure sits atop the Doric temple and offers a bird's-eye view of Barcelona.

Carcassonne, on top of a hill where you can see for miles, has always been important for any army that wanted to control southern France. It controls a crossroads where a big road from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea crosses the main road from France to Spain.

By about 500 BC, Celtic people already had a fort at Carcassonne. When the Romans conquered Gaul about 100 BC, they built a new, stronger fort. Some of that fort is still part of the castle today.

In 453 AD, the Visigoths conquered Carcassonne, and they also made it stronger. When the Umayyads conquered the Visigoths in the early 700's AD, they also conquered Carcassonne, but the Frankish king, Pippin, took it back again in 759.

The Merovingian kings gave Carcassonne to the Count of Toulouse. By 1000 AD, the Counts of Toulouse were pretty much independent of the weak French kings, and when the king told them what to do they didn't pay any attention to him.

The central castle at CarcassonneThese Counts of Toulouse decided in 1067 to build a new, stronger fort at Carcassonne to replace the old Visigothic fort. They built the inner castle, with a well inside it so they could get water without having to leave the castle, and narrow windows to shoot out of.

But by 1209 AD the French kings had gotten stronger, and they captured Carcassonne from the Counts of Toulouse. The French used Carcassonne as a main fortress to defend their border with Spain, and they built yet another wall around the outside to make it even stronger.
