India & Indians is just a westernized by (greeks) romans naming for the people who lived along the river (Indus) originally cames from persian name Sindhu they pronounce as (H)indus is just a Iranian pronounce for (Bharat) Bharati's and their religion.. the muslim rulers renamed it to (Hindus) people (stan) land Hindustan, Hindustani, Sindhu was a kingdom in epic Mahabharata at the riverside..so the name.. all history books (Indus) referred to the people of India!!
