Part 1 of my footage from the KESR's May Steam Gala, all filmed on the bank holiday Monday.
Visiting locomotives were recently overhauled 80072 from the Llangollen Railway and 47493 from the nearby Spa Valley Railway. Somehow, the latter only saw the lens of my camera twice, and only once was it good enough to be put into this video. Hopefully I can visit Spa soon to put this right!
This video is mainly filmed around Northiam.
Now before this video I haven't really seen the need for an external mic, although Northiam is a very exposed station and the built in wind noise reducer thingy that is normally good enough for me struggled to cope, so apologies for some high wind at points! I have also just noticed a mad 2 minutes from around 5.00 to the end, not sure what happened with all that...part 2 will be better, I promise! I blame the editor for shuttting down at around that time point when editing the footage!
Part 2 soon, apologies for late upload, and also, I don't think I will use this slide transition again, doesn't do much for me!

  • Looks like it was a busy gala... As for the external mic, best piece of equipment I ever bought! Worth every penny. Simon

Well it was their most intensive timetable ever, and it ran perfectly. In terms of visitor numbers trains seemed full and when trains arrived the platforms were heaving.

I would probably invest in an external mic when I am old enough (less than 3 years now...yay!) to go linesiding and am out in random fields more often! Bit awkward when you are jumping off busy trains like in this video. Thanks for the advice Simon.

  • Excellent video

haha, glad it isn't just me!

I know the feeling - had one this morning, after 1.5 hrs. of uploading, suddenly failed "unknown error". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Thanks Alan, I will remove the transition when I render the next part and check it isn't going to do the weird thing it was doing from about 5mins in! I could have changed it, but couldn't face deleting it and letting it take another 2 hours to re render!

    Glad it was of interest.

  • As a long-time member of the K&ESR (since 1966) I watched with particular interest. Much has changed since then!! But not a lot (at Northiam, anyway) since I was guarding in 2003 before we moved away. Agree with the transition - have seen better. The wind noise didn't bother me, it's a fact of life. At least the wind keeps off the flies! . . . . Alan
