@blakegriplingph X-rays and radiographs also existed long before then, but no one had made a proper connection between radiation and biological damage for quite some time - even Marie Curie carried un-shielded isotopes in her pockets, and unknowingly led to her own death.
I only note it because LA Noire is rather quite great with little details like that. Pinker would be up-to-date with medical journals and papers on radiation that were coming out at that time, and Biggs... well, wouldn't.
-
@DevilTakeMe - Which makes sense; although quack cures involving radioactive substances did show up in the market prior to the events of LA Noire, and even before Hiroshima and Nagasaki was nuked, the general public had a vague, if any, idea about radiation.
-
@blakegriplingph the H-bomb was first tested in 1951, but the usage of the word "hydrogen bomb" did exist as early as 1946 (when Edward Teller first discussed using hydrogen isotopes as nuclear fuel). Biggs shows that he, as well as the general public did not yet understand "radiation" or "fallout."

I was in the fourth grade when I said that. I didn't even know a lot of stuff back then.
Now i'm in 5th grade know know that I was wrong.
-
@pijef - He did mention the H-Bomb though, which wasn't developed until the early '50s.
