  • @ICLOK I thought on heritage railways there was a speed limit of 25mph (40kph)

  • @NCStL576 it is not allowed to go any faster than 75mph (anyone who is working in km that is 120km) and all mainline steam locomotives have been fitted with a black box is if the driver took it any faster they would know. And if this happened there is the potential for all railtours to be suspended (by those people who dont like steam railtours).

  • @adam4bfc Pity that they had to allow some builder to erect houses on the trackbed at Leicester & Nottingham, as they would have had the scope to have done much more with the GCR

    No doubt palms were greased.

  • @Strawberry7Lynn ECS = Empty Coaching Stock

  • Apparently the gcr is going to become a mainline and is expanding to 17 miles!! The mainline services will through the week and steam + diesel preservation will run at the weekend

  • @niegwl Very informative, but what do you mean by "ECS"?

  • great central shoud have a dinomomitor car for testing engines

  • great central shoud have a dinomomitor car fote testing engines

  • because back in the 40's 50's and 60's steam engines where still pulling main line trains, a lack of health and safety, ment trains running over 75mph where common, but any lack of maintenance ment a major "oppies" mallard had to be striped and repaired after its recored setting run! but now that any steam engine running today is running between todays service, thay have to keep to the limit so's not to bugger up the rest of the timetable for the rest of that line.

  • @pandydrum1 - How come steam locos could travel at over 75mph reguarly back in the 1940/50/60's then?? And surely with smoother rails on the main line at this present date, it would'nt be so bad??
