  • This is a masterpiece, a tribute to the ecstasy, beauty and magnificence of "real" jazz. It's a pity many of our young, so called "jazz" musicians don't understand the concepts that bring goosebumps when one listens to this music.

  • A fantastic song, one of the best compositions in jazz.

  • Haunting, dark, luxurious, melodic mastery.

  • Love this chart!!

  • @postatility i dont think even the beginning of this song is based on all the things you are. maybe it uses the cycle of 4ths but just because all the things you are uses the same cycle doesnt mean theyre related. the compositional concept here that seems most important to me is the layering and orchestration

  • @LSDpeasantry You're 1/2 right.Only the 1st part of the tune is based on "All the Things...".My bad. One of Mingus' other tunes,"All The Things You Could Be If Sigmund Freud's Wife Were Your Mother" is entirely based on those changes.Seriously.

  • @postatility perhaps i would be so lucky, but is it based on the changes of All the things you are?? I don't think it is...

  • @LSDpeasantry You should be so lucky!

  • @postatility what the fuck are you smokin??

  • @beefshotgun Over the years,I have listened to Jazz while at work(Post Office),doing housework, walking the dog, mowing the lawn, driving, making love, painting, and many other activities.I am happy to report that it works for ALL of them!

  • Of all the adaptations over the years of "All The Things You Are",this might be the most moving.

  • typical elegant Mingus style... pure and genius!
