The Agden Roman Hoard

In January 1957 a hoard of almost 2,500 bronze Roman coins were discovered in a pot buried in a riverbank after a rabbit had been burrowing and had thrown some of the coins onto the enbankment. The rest of the hoard was excavated by Mr Rimmer of Warrington Museum and taken to the Grosvenor Museum in Chester where they have remained on display until this day. But part of the hoard was missed and remained buried for another fifty years until recently a further 53 coins were discovered that all date to the same period as the original hoard.
