On June 27, 2009, a bear walked through a thin stand of woods separating my house from the neighbor's house. This is in the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Virginia, in eastern Clarke County. My house is near the Appalachian Trail and the bear is about 300 yards from the trail at this point. At my closest, I was about 50 feet from the bear. I have caught a couple glimpses of bears before but this was by far the best I have seen a bear in the wild around my home.
I live in Ontario Canada for the past three days a bear has been in my yard. Odd that every single web page talks about how to prevent this before it happens instead of giving the information after the fact. Do they not realize that had the bear not already been in my yard I would not need to get rid of it? So the web pages I have seen are useless. I have no gun permits, banging pots have no effect, and the officials have no interest. I have 2 children I must keep inside please advise me. THX

@Drayghon I have no advice to give you. The bear in this video simply walked through the yard and I saw it in another yard a couple hours later. I have not seen it since. I'd be happy to see this bear again, but I don't have children. In the US, many counties have "cooperative extension" offices, which help residents with wildlife issues... dunno if there's something like that in Canada.
Good luck with your bear!

Thanks for the tip, but I kinda like seeing the bear around. He didn't hurt anything... just walked on through.
