simply extraordinary!

If I could have CDs of only 3 compositions for piano Rach's #2 would be first, Grieg's #1 would be second, and almost anything by Chopin could fill in the rest of my collection. The classic period works are fine for those who prefer that type of music, but put me down as a lover of romantic period music. If that makes me a lowbrow Neanderthal so be it.

all by myself...a fitting title to someone that will be long forgotten as rachmaninoff will be remembered!

I have the opportunity to listen to so many pianists on this concerto, but undeniably this is the best (I think) interpretation of the concerto. Lovely.

Hauntingly beautiful,
both the piece and performance...

@arnolddao Fortunately, we all know which came first: Rachmaninoff...

@phxphillip Pls, tell us more about your encounter with this exceptional pianist...

This is actually a surprisingly good audio recording given the vintage. What an elegant interpretation of this stunning concerto. Kissin performs it beautifully as well. Hats off to Van's incredible gift!

I can feel the music with him.
I always cry when I listen to Rachmaninoff... it deeply touches my soul.

Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't like his interpretation of Rach 3, but his Rach 2 is lovely (one of the best).
One more thing, the music of "All by Myself" is outrageously similar to 2'17 - 2'35 if you don't want to say exactly the same.
