Wow! one wouldn't mess with this gal! Very individual. She demands attention and she certainly got mine! Go gal!

Sing it, Della ....
-
I've heard many singers sing this song, which is my favorite song, and Della Reese in my opinion has a very distinct, unique style to her voice and her rendition of this great song. (did I mention that I HATE hiphop, heavy metal, and most rock?) Therefore, she wins on this song , while other singers win on other different songs. It all depends on the orchestra arrangement and the singer's interpretation of it. Della Reese does her magic on this song, and I love it.

This is a really interesting interpretation. The character singing this is confident. She will look back and smile, not cry for long, and she'll remember fondly. She'll move forward--maybe she'll miss the past--but she'll go on living. Very different from what we're used to hearing. Worth a listen, for sure.

@domi0692 mais pas si belle comme le meme chanson chante par Dame Shirley bessey. va trouve et ecoute. Il est disponible sur YT
-
@gilmancrush Yes, She comes closest to the emotion invested in this one by Dame Shirley. But the dame is miles ahead.
-
Sarah's version is unmatched.

I know, right? This is by far the best version, and I am not saying that just because it happens to be by Della. Streisand's version is too overdone, and Bassey's version is sung too quickly, thought I like Bassey, too.

I get what you're saying, but, if I've learned nothing else on YT, it's that music is far too subjective to make definitive statements.
I've learned that the hard way...:)
Be sure to listen to Sarah Vaughan's & Jessye Norman's versions.
Bassey recorded more than a couple of versions, both live on stage & in the studio, all at different speeds, so, w/ her, there may be too many variations to make a clear judgement call.

I do think it is possible to make an unbiased assessment of all of the versions, and then make a personal conclusion, but here on YouTube, it usually gets ugly. Unfortunately. >>
Thanks again for taking an interest in the video! :)
