This is a preview of the 47-minute documentary, "A Possible Dream: the Andrea Friedman Story", made by Hillary Pryor.

When Andrea was born the doctors urged her parents, Hal and Marj Friedman, to place her in an institution. Hal and Marj refused to accept this verdict for their precious daughter and set about to give her all the love, opportunities and challenges they would any child. This documentary, narrated by Joanne Woodward, traces Andrea's childhood and the family's struggle to have her accepted in the 'mainstream'. As we follow Andrea's daily life - at work, at home, at acting workshops and out with friends - we explode many of the myths about people with mental challenges.

  • Good on you Andrea, you're obviously one of the people born with Down syndrome who is very high functioning, and I applaud your achievements!

  • This woman is inspirational. A true example of what people with Down's can do if society decides to look past old and discriminatory stereotypes. Just because someone might not be as academically gifted as the rest of us doesn't mean that they should be limited in anything in life.

  • you are my hero andrea...a fighter to the core

  • She is a great inspiration to everyone! The first time I saw her was on Life Goes On, and I was amazed. I wish I had a copy of the TV movie she starred in called Smudge. It's my favorite movie as it moved me to tears. Truly Andrea is a special gift.

  • she is just an angel *bless

  • cool

  • Wow, this Andrea woman is incredible. She's a fighter. More power to her!

  • Andrea, YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL! <3

  • WHAT A BADASS!

  • *laughs at Fotogger's comment* What Sarah Palin said about her poor son Trig being disadvantaged was hilariously mocked by Andrea. She holds him "like a loaf of French bread under her arm," (awesome) using him for sympathy and votes, believing that because he has Down Syndrome, or Up Syndrome as Andrea says, that he'll never actually amount to anything. I've worked with challenged kids. Having a low IQ doesn't mean you're ignorant, it just means you have to work harder for what you know.
