10+ comments would be wonderful. Your feedback is amazing. I mean, seriously. My writing these days have been awful, you know?
--

That's definitely not the answer I was looking forward to. I'm probably being a drama queen, but for some odd reason, Karen's statement makes me really angry. I'm just . . . I don't understand. Why is she saying this?

"Why can't you just be happy for me?" I whisper with ill-disguised ferocity. I throw my fork on the table, and it makes a loud noise, startling the both of us. "I thought you'd support me a little. You like Lucas."

"I have nothing against Lucas." Karen states sternly, her gaze unwavering. However, she soon sighs exasperatedly and runs her hand down her face. "I really don't want to argue with you tonight, Lucy."

"We don't have to argue, you know. Just tell me why you don't want me to go out with Lucas. It's really not that complicated." I push, not trying even the slightest to mask the annoyed expression on my face.

"I'm just worried about you," She sighs, putting her fork down beside her plate.

"Lucas isn't a bad guy. Actually, he's probably one of the best guys out there right now." I contend, not satisfied with her vague answer. I mean, who does she think she is? I mean, obviously she's my older sister, but Lucas is totally trustworthy. I don't understand her reason.

"I know he's not a bad guy." She says more firmly; I can tell her patience with me is waning . . . exponentially, I might add. Clasping her hands together, she tiredly moistens her lips. "But I just don't think you should date your best friend. Last time when you went out with Connor—"

"Okay, just stop. Why is everyone mentioning him all of a sudden? People just won't shut up today." I growl angrily, standing up from my seat. Shit. I wish I could take those words back, I think. I fall back into my seat, and I am seriously cursing at myself. I hate how I can't control myself whenever his name comes up. There are no brakes on my emotions when it comes to him. I just want to leave him in the past, yet he keeps haunting me to this day. "I'm sorry." I apologize in a low whisper, unable to meet Karen's gaze. I'm afraid she's going to have the 'I told you so' look.

"Lucy. . ." She whispers, reaching her hand out to grasp mine. I quickly recoil. It's not because I hate her touch or anything, but for some odd reason I was just afraid that she'd see right through me, with a single touch. "You know what, this isn't my business. If you're happy, I'm happy for you. I won't tell you how to live your life." She says earnestly, surrendering her argument. "But just promise me that you won't get hurt this time."

"I promise." I smile brightly as I nod my head up and down vigorously. "So . . . since you agreed that you'll let me live my life how I want, how about that job—"

"Don't push it." She snaps good-humoredly, shooting me a playful look. Her smile quickly fades and she's back to her usual serious expression. "But seriously, I don't want you getting a job any time soon, okay?"

"Alright, alright." I grumble playfully, stifling a small giggle.

. . . . . . . . .

I brush my fingers through my loose waves, wrapping my hair around my forefinger every now and then. Usually, my hair's straight but I thought I'd go for a different look today. After all, today's the day! I loosely tuck in the front of my off-shoulder tee into my jeans; the bold yet hushed pink serves as perfect contrast for my dark washed jeans. I stare into the mirror, my eyes fixated on my bare shoulder. Maybe this is a little too sexy? Should I go more conservative?

Ding Dong.

Well, it's too late to change now, I think.

"I'm going to go!" I yell out to Karen before running down the stairs and answering the door. I take a deep breath and I can't even function correctly because the nerves are literally gnawing me to death. "Hey," I smile as casually as I can, waving sort of awkwardly. Crap, I'm totally being weird.

"You look really great." Lucas smiles timidly, his cheeks already a light pink. "Although you look good in the school's uniform, I definitely prefer you in casual clothes."

I laugh out loud at his comment, and I can't help but shake my head. He is sooooo not smooth. Shutting the door behind me, I take my spot beside him and casually link my arm with his. "You're really bad at complimenting girls." I tease, stifling another laugh. "But lucky for you, I find it quite amusing."

"I'm just a little nervous!" He says defensively, meeting my gaze. However, he quickly pulls away and clears his throat, moistening his dry lips. "You just wait, I'll have you swooning over me in no time."

"I'll believe it when I see it, Romeo."
