can someone please tell me why i dont have the "extract" option in "filter"...plz...

Why not just use a mask and lower the saturation. A lot faster.

you could always just select it with a selection tool, maybe give it a little feather, clcik select inverse and turn the background black and white. Or use a layer with black and white conversion settings and use a layer mask to deselect the ares you want colored, thus only opening one file. Same result tought pretty much

<3 this.

i think you can also select the object you want to keep coloured then go to Select -- inverse - then click image--- grayscale
You can get an extract plug-in for CS4 i can't remember where I got it but it is possible :)

@raisavm
not sure if this will help or not but if you already did (Image/Adjustments/black&white)
then i believe if you hit ctrl+u or (Image/adj/hue&saturation) and then click on the COLORIZE box and adjust the HUE to the color you want.
Then tweak the saturation to get the desired effect.
Side note I think you can skip changing it to black and white in the first place if you just use the colorize check box under Hue/Saturation adjustment.
