  • Yuck teaching. I taught science for one year and now returning to college to be a Accountant. Society, parents and student at large do not respect teaching. They do not think teachers are worth more than 45,000 a year which is not what makes teachers teach, but yet a sign of the value we give them. Ive been offered 20 jobs this year with not even looking and am not returning! The answer to the science and math teacher shortage is higher pay, harsher and stronger disapline for kids. Kids have

  • As to the the first question posited: Teaching should be a profession, but it has been relegated to the status of "job" in contemporary America. As a former public school teacher in the inner-city, I can say with untrammeled honesty that public education in the U.S. has more to do with posturing and bureacracy than making the world a better place or serving the needs of kids. If you're thinking of becoming a teacher, please do yourself a big favor and reconsider.
