  • I'm sorry, I don't know much about the Statesment, did Big Chief always sing like that? Was that just part of his character?

  • That's the Chief. IMO the best bass singer ever.

  • Do you have that one old Statesmen clip, where Jake started laughing in the middle of the song.

    I can't remember the song?

  • Yes, I have that one. I will post it in my next batch.

  • These videos are great do you have any of Hovie taking lead.

  • I have 4 or 5 I'll post them next.

  • @statesmenfan JD Sumner is by far the best bass singer of all time.

George Younce is a very close second.

  • is it just me or does doy ott have just an awesome baritone sound?

  • just listen to that Hovie!!!!!!!

  • @metanoeo1 Yeah, Tim Riley is good. I like the bass of the Legacy Five too.

  • This is awesome!

  • @Rev1981 That's typical Big Chief. He always sounded like he had marbles in his mouth or something. Very mumbly and hard to understand. I'll take Tim Riley or London Parris over Chief any day.

  • Class , pure class

  • @Rev1981 Considering the tempo and proximity from the mic, he seems especially clear and crisp to me. The Cathedrals set the standard for this song in the modern quartet age, yet they were at a much slower tempo. Chief was a rhythmic bass. The Lefevres also had a very fast arrangement of this song.

  • @codykokinda That was just this particular song....Big chief can seriously get it done when he wants/needs to.

  • Roise Rozell was and is the best tenor

Big Chief was and is the best bass singer
