TURTLE TRAX: www.turtles.org

Introducing Pomaika'i, a male Hawaiian green sea turtle we've known since 1996. "Pomaika'i" is Hawaiian meaning "lucky"

Pomaika'i is triply so. The U-shaped cut in his shell shows a narrow escape from a shark during some time in his life.

He is also a survivor of the tumor disease called Fibropapilloma.

Third-time lucky? He lives at Honokowai, West Maui. As you know, "Maui no ka oi"!

  • Black Rock is an excellent place to see honu and several other neat sea critters.

  • my dogs name is honu

  • there is a place up some where in Keihi that has sea turtles all the time

  • Really nice! I went snorkeling at Black Rock in August 2007 and was lucky enough to swim with a sea turtle. He (or she--I didn't flip it over to check--lol) was such a graceful creature. "Maui no ka oi" is right!
