This video shows the results of project I did at my study Automotive Engineering at the Rotterdam University of Applied Science.

Goal was to get more experienced in CAD drawing with Autodesk Inventor by drawing and animating an automotive system. Many things could be chosen such as: suspension systems, steering systems, transmission systems etc.

I chose to draw the lower end of an Harley-Davidson engine together with the pistons. I animated the assembly at the end so that it becomes very clear what happens in such an engine when it revs.

I first measured the rough dimensions of real Harley-Davidson Shovelhead flywheels, connecting rods, pistons etc., after which I started drawing in CAD.

Because it was my first time drawing with 3D CAD software, there is not much detail in the parts. It took me about a complete week (40 hours or so) to finish this assembly

  • @StreetGlideBad103 Good point on not looking at Wings any more. I still have my 96 Wing but it'll be up for sale soon. It's a great bike but I've fallen for another Harley. Had to pick me up a 2011 CVO Ultra Classic (cobalt and twilight) and she is just so much more fun than the Wing. Wings since 1992 but the new Harleys with the 09 chassis and power hits me just right. All that BS the other guy is spouting comes from the old days. People just love to bash from the past and have no clue on new.

  • i have so much in common with this video;

-i love rage against the machine

-my school uses autodesk inventor (2009)

-I am trying to design my own 4 cylinder 3d engine in inventor

only is there a difference between the crankshaft journal center line radius and the stroke of the piston head?

and how long should the connecting rod be?

I'm not making my engine as a model of anything that exists, just my own design

    please respond if you can

  • @StreetGlideBad103 OH MY GOD. You are so pro "buy american" and worried about american jobs but you worked for MAGNA, the CANADIAN parts manufacturer? That takes JOBS AWAY from americans by supporting the canadian competition! LOL practice what you preach. BTW the 'Beemer is not an ugly bike. -When it is all dirty from going across the COUNTRY in any weather on any road, it is a beautiful thing. Peace out. :-)

  • @waterfordjim Guess you have not been to a dealer in a while. I worked as the Maintenance Manager for Magna, the world largest supplier of automobile parts. So if you work on the american side of the injection molding, why on earth would you buy a BMW made in Euorpe. As soon as the Goldwing stopped being built in the USA I never looked at another one. What about Victory. Good god you are giving away American jobs, for the worlds ugliest bike none the less.

  • @StreetGlideBad103 When USA builds a modern, quality bike that is not grossly overweight and underpowered, I will buy it. My company services many plastic injection molding manufacturers. Some of their clients are BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan- as well as domestics. For me, my livelihood depends on these European brands that are built stateside. BTW I ride one of those funky looking BMW GS enduros. -over 75,000 miles with zero problems. NO repairs, only scheduled maintenance and new tires.

  • @waterfordjim Wow there you go showing off how smart you are again. Harley has been going strong for 108 years and will continue. Bet you are one of those dumb fucks complaining the can't get a good paying job but will still buy metrics that are not made in the USA and can't figure out where all the jobs are going.

  • @StreetGlideBad103 For all that displacement, those numbers are DISMAL. -And I bet you modified it too! The stock numbers are even more pisspoor. But I would never expect much from a 75 year old design.

  • @waterfordjim Must be you are an avid rider. Or just someone that does not have a clue. I would guess the later. Duh lets see my harley produces 111 foot pounds of torque and 100 horse power. That is with the 103 cubic inch motor. If you actually rode you might have posted a picture of your bike. But my guess is you just like talking shit with nothing to compare to any of my Harleys.

  • @StreetGlideBad103 Hardly Ablesons do NOT have stump pulling low end torque. They have no power whatsoever at high revs so what little power they do have IS down @ low RPMs. This has nothing to do with the single crank pin design! Victory's motor is light years ahead of the HD. Polaris could have made it much smoother running but designed in some shake so idiots that think HD is cool will buy them. :-)

  • @waterfordjim Wow you are smart, but you forget that is why the Harley has stump pulling low end torque. And as far as running like shit and leaking oil you must not know but AMF no longer makes Harleys. Union made in the good ol USA.
