Bolivia folk dance in San Marcos, CA. Palomar College 2004. This group is a family in California.
The festival dance is a treasure of Bolivian folklore. The Caporales dance originated in La Paz, Bolivia in the 1960's. It's a spirited, colorful representation of the 1500's Spanish mining slavery. The rhythmic bells on the men's boots are symbolic of the chains slaves wore. At the same time the fancy clothes and whips portray the slave overseers.
