what a damn shame... a 4 cyl in a car like this.... only reason bmw put a 4 cyl in the 5 series was so taxi companies would buy them

@oldirtybastard213 That is incorrect, there are almost no taxi 5-series.

But most of the 5-series sold (I think around 50%) are 520d, they save quite a bit on taxes / insurance / fuel consumption, therefore being cheaper to operate. Especially for companies that have strict policies on their cars.

I have the same car bought in July 2009 but it came with an older iDrive system despite the new control buttons!!!

@skyrider007 That is true, they updated the buttons before, and sold it with the old iDrive for some time (I think late 2008, early 2009).

@oldirtybastard213 In Serbia Taxes for a car which doesnt go above 2000cc is 280 Euro....But if you goes +1cc above 2000cc taxes for the Registering that car is 480euro (Min).!!! That is the Point of 1999ccc and 4cyl..

@CanijAsa Is this a new Tax rule please? I mean new in the last 15 years? BMW 5 series E39 520i in 1996 has only 1997cc. I do not believe Serbia had any such Tax law in 1996. Maybe BMW bought the new Serbia and installed a Government so have a market for this size car, but personally I think this is silly. The size of the 520 has nothing to do with any Balkan State. As for taxis, this is left to Mercedes. Taxi makers to the entire third world. Look at any African or Asia country.

In Serbia 520d (e60) is more expensive than 525d or 530d.....530d is 5000 - 7000eur cheaper than 520d...because of high price we pay for Luxury Taxes for cars above 2000cc....and nobody wants to buy 530d now or even cars above 2000cc !!!
