Police maintain strong presence following public order incidents -- Wallaga Lake Village 2011-03-05 17:42:28 Police have arrested and charged eight people over recent public order incidents near Narooma, on the state's south coast. Several large brawls have broken out between members of two feuding families in Wallaga Lake Village, south of Narooma, since Wednesday (2 March). A number of people received treatment at Moruya and Bega Hospitals for minor injuries sustained in the incidents. Police from Far South Coast Local Area Command, the Public Order and Riot Squad, and Southern Region Public Order and Operations Support Group have maintained a significant presence in the area to ensure there is no further violence. Last night (Friday 4 March), police arrested eight people and questioned them at Moruya, Bega and Bermagui police stations about the incidents. They were charged with various offences - including offensive conduct - and conditionally bailed to appear in court at a later date. Local detectives are continuing their inquiries and have not ruled out making further arrests. Police remain in the village this evening and continue to make high-visibility patrols to ensure order is maintained.
