Today is two hundred and twenty in the series. Today we will finish up our short series on decorations found in the home for New Years in Japan. The New Year is referred to as shogatsu and during this time you will find many different decorations. Today's origami is for another variation of Maneki Neko. Also known as the Lucky Cat, Beckoning Cat, Welcoming Cat, Money Cat, or Fortune Cat; these cats are seen all over Japan. They are often found at the entrance of businesses. The cat has one paw raised in a beckoning way to ask for good luck and fortune to come to the establishment. They can also be found in homes and they make great piggy banks.
Today's cat features a red collar or bib with a bell. Many Japanese like to put bells on their wallets as a good luck charm for money. This cat is also seen holding a big coin (an old koban coin). This origami is split into two parts. Make sure you watch both parts!
