This locomotive is/was also known by ALCO as a DL 601. "Diesel Locomotive (6) six axle."
Okay, it's been a while since my last post.
I filmed this Friday, May 16, 2008.
Today, I'm finally putting it on here.
By the way, this Broadway Limited Import locomotive, the Atlas FM TM Gold Series, and the Proto 1000 U30B all share the same QSI sound system. For analog modelers, that means you may access at least three sounds manually: whistle, bell, Doppler effect using the reversing switch on your power pack. The start-up, rev-up, compressor, air shots, and braking upon slowing down will automatically work. Atlas supplies the "Quantum Engineer" Controller which allows you to access all of the feature sounds in analog control.
By the way, you can actually hear me clicking the directional switch to initiate the bell and whistle sounds.
Yes,the Quantum Engineer sound controller will make the QSI, dcc equipped Proto 2000 locomotive produce the sounds if you decide to not get a power device such as Digitraxx DCC controller.
However:
This Quantum Engineer sound controller will not allow you to expand the sound capabilities of a dc sound/dcc up-gradable locomotive that is labeled:
LokSound dc/dcc upgradable.
I was told these particular locomotives have their own sound control-box to access the sounds that locomotive can produce.

Read the advertisement for the Quantum Engineer. Chances are, you will get more features beyond the basics with the ordinary AC/DC power pack.
